getting Acrobat 5.05 to scan using Epson 1650?

can anyone help with this one:

i just bought an Epson 1650 scanner, downloaded the latest driver from epson and can scan using image capture and photoshop 7 but when i launch acrobat 5.05(full version, not reader), it doesn't recognize the scanner.

i'm thinking it was a bad idea to traded my canon for this scanner. anyone have any suggestions?
