I have a lot of unopenable old files created with a Visioneer PaperPort vx scanner. This model of scanner is long discontinued, and I'm not able to make mine operate any longer. The files have a file extension of ".max". At one time Visioneer created programs to view these files on the Mac or PC, but when I try these programs now, they crash my Mac and fail to open on the PC.

Does anyone know of a way to view and convert these old PaperPort files?

However, the translators don't seem to support the PaperPort (here are the viewers, BTW) format...
