This is the first version that is M$-branded. Did anybody read the release notes for this version? Here's a little snippet...

"Updating to Virtual PC for Mac version 6.1 enables users of Connectix Virtual PC for Mac to seamlessly transition product support to Microsoft."

I wonder what they mean by that?

It means that complaints can now be directed at the usual party.
Nasrudin sat on a river bank when someone shouted to him from the opposite side: "Hey! how do I get across?" "You are across!" Nasrudin shouted back.

Sounds great!!! Looking forward to installing the update for free later... Anyone using now can post reviews, and if performance has improved, please let us know your system configuration and what kind of enhancements you are noticing.

Thanks alot guys!

This is one release I am going to watch before installing... like a month of so. I don't use VPC very much, but the reports on VT already say it slows it down.

No good.

Also, what about G5 support?

Did you look at the dates on those posts on VersionTracker? Those cat's aren't talking about 6.1 they are talking about 6.0.1

I am curious to know if 6.1 emulates win apps as Mac OS Classic emulates in OSX, as people speculate(?) it should be in Panther.

ANyone brave enough to install, give us a shout please...

It's just re-branding and a path to future updates. You will have to have this version to move to newer updates in the future.

I'm waiting for someone else to give it a go.

If you need to ask, it probably doesn't affect you.

I just applied the VPC 6.1 update without any problems: it also installs new VPC Additions when you start Windows, and in Windows XP also obliges you to reactivate it (saying, approximately, that you have made a consistent number of hardware modifications, and thus you need to reactivate Windows before 3 days: probably, it's because the virtual hardware is now Microsoft instead of Connectix); luckily, the reactivation (via the web) went well...

as for serials, i never said anything about that. i said SN (you know, screen name) anways it doesnt affect me either, but its just what i heard/read
ah, i see.... thanks for clarifying.

It's funny when an MS update comes out - everyone is afraid to be the first to try it.

"You try it!"

"No way man, you try it!"

Hmmm this has me thinking. MS could embed in to VPC known 'compromised' XP serial numbers. They can't do this on the (main) PC side, but with VPC they 100% control the 'hardware'. I don't use VPC so it doesn't affect me, but I wonder how many VPC users have 'ligitamite' versions of XP.

Classic is not an emulator, so no.

No, that was some BusinessWeek journalist being inept and misinterpreting information. There won't be any PC emulation in Panther.

I have heard they do this via the Service Packs tho'. So if you're using XP w/out a valid serial on a windows box, you won't be able to install any of the service packs. And with the holes in Windows, that's a dangerous way to run.

Tried it out. No fix for the screen artifacts I get while drawing in CAD (introduced from VPC 5.0 --> 6.0). Doesn't seem particularly "faster" either. Ah well.

Oh and there is an uninstall routine (detailed in the read me before you install), but it's not straightforward.

Somebody on this forum (I think) suggested earlier that VPC with Windows XP Professional 6.0 required at least 1 GB RAM on a 17-inch PowerBook to run efficiently, while VPC with Windows 2000 Professional 6.0 required only 512 MB.

Is this true for Version 6.1 for both products as well? Is there any increase in efficiency between the two versions of VPC w/XP Pro?
