I am using a mac (OS X.2) on a Windows 2000 Server network. While most of my files are kept on the server, which is automatically backed-up, I would like a way to backup my system, applications and the files that are kept on my mac.

Has anyone tried this. Any software that you know works?

So far, I have had trouble with Retrospect, Silverkeeper and perhaps one or two others. Quite possibly, I am doing something wrong, but I would like to hear that this is possible from someone who has done it.

Carbon Copy Cloner does not work over a network. It won't even start up unless you have a non-system drive mounted (and it doesn't see the network drives, which, are in fact, there).

If you've got SFM set up on the PC, I'd think you could use ditto. Try:

ditto -v -rsrcFork /<original> /<backup>

To do a restore, you'd have to boot from a different volume. Any reasons why this wouldn't work?

It might work if I had any idea what you are talking about Unfortanately, I must admit that I don't know what SFM is or how to use ditto (which I am guessing is a command but don't know where or how to use it).

I've got it working, but you had to chose a directory -> your mounted network share. I think it had problems with permissions, and bla bla, but I've got the files copied.

Sniffer gone old-school sig

How do you choose a directory? I just tried CCC and it won't see the drives on the 2000 server even though they are mounted on my desktop.
