I want to take some stuff out of some DVD's and make a new DVD with just the stuff I want on it, now I used DVDBackup to extract the DVD. Now iDVD will not read or import the VOB files, when Sizzle does, what's the reason for this?

What is the best way to work with vob files and iDVD?

I have access to DVD Studio Pro 1.5 and Final Cut pro & compressor if those would help the situation anymore.

Thanks for any help and guidance on this!

iDVD is designed for creating your own DVDs, not for editing existing ones (which probably means violating copyright etc etc). I'd expect Apple has made this hard, or something.

Anyway, if you google around you might be able to find some VOB->MPEG2 decoder and then you'd probably be able to use DVD Studio Pro.

Oh, yes, and I guess Apple would have to use DeCSS which would incur the wrath of the MPAA.

first, do a search in the audio/video forum, this has been covered many times. you'll need a demuxing app like bbDemux to separate the VOB into audio and video.

second, if you have DVDSP and FCP, why don't you use them? forget iDVD. as Angus_D said, that's strictly for making your own DVD's, not copying stuff, or editing mpeg2 files. even if you could get the demuxed VOB into iDVD, to make the disc, iDVD will re-encode everything into mpeg 2 REGARDLESS if it was already mpeg 2.
