This is a totally shameless plug for my "UKShopping" collection of sherlock channels. I've just added a new channel: "UKComputers" which allows you to search Amazon, the AppleStore, Cancom, Computer Warehouse, Dabs.com and MacWarehouse for computer hardware & software. Find products, check availability, compare prices, then jump straight to your chosen product page. Just click this link, and when the box pops up, click "Proceed".

UKShopping

Give it a try!

Thanks Barney. Is Apple including this and other third party channels in Panther?

It really is amazing, nearly a whole year since Jaguar came out and still no Apple created localised channels. It's the lies I don't like. Jobs did promise in his keynote they would be localised. Sure, they are minor compared to how cool OS X as a whole is, and Panther looks set to be very sweet, but we pay just like everyone else. And Apple UK is pretty big. Why not just pay someone a couple of weeks wages to knock up a few useful channels?

Oh well. Rant over.
Sizzling like an isotope.

I really hope Apple does include my channels, but they haven't contacted me about it. It's really hard to advertise Sherlock3 channels: MacUpdate doesn't accept them, Sherlockers hasn't been updated in months (in spite of my submissions), Apple won't list them in MacOS X downloads, and most of the other Sherlock 3 sites seem to have shut down. At least VersionTracker works!

Nice, I never use Sherlock as I am from the hinterlands of world culture (the UK), well at least as far as Apple is concerned.

It's probably quite useful, I've taken you're plugins, (pretty slick that they auto install), maybe it'll motivate me.

Thanks -

(Are they easy to write these plugins - like the pictures one, I would love to make one to search my online archive.)

They're fairly tricky to write: harder than Sherlock 2 but easier than Watson. If you know both Javascript and XQuery you'll have no trouble! Otherwise, start learning.

For searching your own libraries Sherlock may not be ideal unless you already have them on your intranet. I believe all the Sherlock operations have to go through http, in order to stop people writing malicious plugins.

The sherlock channels are great. The one I would really like from the US channels is the cinema listings. Don't suppose you want to do Apple's work and write one for the UK?

I really appreciate the channels you have already written but I have no idea how to do this myself.

UK Cinema and TV listings would be incredible... Probably a commercial opportunity.

If I could just adapt Apple's channels to the UK, I would do it for free. Trouble is, Apple has already stopped one third-party channel (ebay.de) because of breach of copyright, so I would have to write them from scratch, which would take some time. I'm reluctant to do this, in case Apple releases their own versions after I've put in a lot of work on mine.

Of course, if anyone from Apple is reading this, make me an offer!
