quick question:
does closing off the shutter of an iSight cut off BOTH the audio and video for iChat AV?
I remember it being advertised somewhere that you close the shutter so that you can maintain video privacy, but that you can continue audio chatting with the shutter closed.
Me and my friend found however that it seems that closing the shutter cuts off everything....is that normal?

I don't know the "official" answer, but I can confirm that closing the iris effectively shuts off the camera AND microphone.
The only way to disable video is to use the iChat --> Video menu and uncheck the Video option.
Personally, I would like to keep the shutter closed at all times and only open it for Video...this way I know FOR SURE that there is no Video going out without my knowing it.

I wish you could select an image to display if you only have a microphone... Then I could see them, and they could see a photo of me...
Oh well... that program rocks... now if only everyone would buy a Mac.

A bit off topic, but I would love an "answering machine" option for iChat AV. So that if I'm away, and someone wants to invite me to a video or audio chat, the invite would come back with an answering machine-like message. It could be a video recording you make, or audio recording or even just text. Then they can leave a message for you. How cool would that be?
But as far as your question goes, I'm not sure. And I don't have anyone to test it with either. It's just me and my iSight.

^ You guys are hilarious....I did start an "iSight: the Gathering" thread but nobody wanted to post up their s/n's.
There are a whole lot of dedicated websites to this though...composed of hordes of nerdy guys.

Anybody get this iSight/iChat to work through their wireless router? I have enabled the port forwarding settings for my linksys router but I still can't initiate a voice or video chat:

I am using OS 10.2.6 with an iSight. Linksys BEFW11S4 v.2 router. The actual computer is a 733 mhz g4 quicksilver.

I have 10.2.6 on a G4 Sawtooth with a Linksys router and an iSight, and iChatAV works great... but I had to do one thing that no one mentioned, until this forum: turn down the bit rate. See my thread here.
If that's not it, give us more details on what you're doing and what happens.
