mail.app cut and delete

	I use mail.app (which I think is excellent) but I accidentally hit cmd-x (ie "Cut") while I was viewing an email in my inbox. At the time I didn't know what I pressed to make it disappear. Since then I have discovered that I could have retrieved it by typing "paste". However, that does not help me get back the one I lost because I didn't use "paste" right away. Does anyone know where it went? It seems to me it should have gone to the trash instead of the cyber-ether, so I suspect it is still somewhere on my computer. Thanks for any help!
