Safari stalling when spanning a new window....

Almost every single time when I click on the safrai icon in the dock, it stalls for 2-3 seconds before it spwans a new window. Camino does this also. Any idea why? Any soultions besides deleting the preferences because I remember Safari doing that even when I first installed Safari. TIA.
