anybody here have problems when using netscape 7? I find it very sensitive as it may just crash upon opening a lot, particularly when the computer has been on for a while, and the computer will have to be restarted just to get it to work. anyone know what the problem is? do you think it's netscape's problem or the computer? any info into this would be of great help. thanks.

also, I don't know if this is important or coincidence, but netscape seems to crash alot if a microsft program has been open for a while. I don't think they like each other.

Didn't you heard that Netscape died a few weeks ago?

You should use Mozilla from now on. Netscape is based on Mozilla engine.

Heh heh.

desi - FYI about the comments... Netscape is a dead duck, and has pretty much been hated with great emotion by most people since NS 6... it's on the verge of being worthless, and many web designers don't even care about coding for Netscape anymore. If you're using OS X, you'd best try out Apple's own Safari, Mozilla (if you just have to have a near-Netscape experience), or Camino (a lightweight relative of Mozilla), or OmniWeb if you don't mind paying for a web browser. (IE for Mac is also dead now... M$ called it off some time ago).

Um, there's no difference in coding for NS7 and coding for Mozilla.

Btw. IE for Windows is also dead.

yeah, i know it's no more, but I use it for certain sites that just don't show up right on communicator or IE, so I'm forced to use it. though I will probably check out mozilla. also opera is alright, but the same sites still have a problem—like ESPN. and i too have a strong hate for netscape. also IE. they're all hunks of filth, what else can you say.

IE for Windows is dead? Since when? Since it's the most used browser?

Since around the same time they dumped the Mac version.

IE for Windows has been just as neglected as the Mac version, and there will not be a new version.

The MS web browser will now be an integrated part of Longhorn, and MS also have their MSN Explorer which is still active (and costs money).

MSN Explorer exists on both Mac and Windows, and the next version allows other than MSN customers to buy and use it (why they would do that I don't know ).

Even if i had the money I would not buy OSX unless I had to get a new machine. I find OSX ugly. I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels this way. I guess apple tried to make it (the interface) look too sleek and realistic. In the end you have something that lacks individualty, or perhaps as some would call it 'soul'. It is like the way a lot of CGI looks and feels. In the end, I'll be forced to use it. Since I don't have the money I just have to make due with what I have.

If you have an OS X capable Mac, then at least update to 9.2.2.

I second that, with OS X you can still use crappy Netscape 7, but at least it won't crash the whole system when it goes down

Then why are you using Netscape 7 or even OS 9.1 for that matter?

For Mac OS 9 development of Mozilla (and therewith Netscape) has stopped at 1.2.1. It's probably the best browser you can get for that OS, so you should give it a try.

I don't remember any problems with 9.2 but I also don't remember a compelling reason to upgrade if 9.1 is working fine for you.
Nasrudin sat on a river bank when someone shouted to him from the opposite side: "Hey! how do I get across?" "You are across!" Nasrudin shouted back.

I don't like OS updates, and netscape was a full download. I have 9.1 because photoshop, illustrator, and quark need it, otherwise I wouldn't use 9.1. I'd prefer not to use an update of 9.1, but in my line of work I need to. Updates are free and money is tight. You make adjustments when you have to.

Check out http://wamcom.org/ for continued Mozilla development for OS 8.6 - 9. As of now, they are up to 1.3.1 according to the web page.

(Moot point now that we know he doesn't use OS X, but anyway):

Yes, I'm well aware of that... would it be unfair to assumed that if he tried it out and liked it, he'd pay the license fee? Sheesh.
