I just want to get my mail. Is there a written link somewhere to explain to me how mail is set up and how it works in relation to my internet service or can someone explain to me in newbie format so I can understand.

I have digital cable, .mac email address, rcn.com email and get my mail from work(someone there set it up) POP.

I have not had issues with .mac mail in the past but in the last 3 or so weeks I have as much as an hour delay or don't even get mail I have been sent. I missed one really important email this week and I often have trouble senting out now.

If I have someone send me tests I will get the email sent to work (I am checking at home) immediately, and the .mac either right away or much later or not at all.

I know there was some blasting of .mac mail before but why is is so inconsistent and why when I did not appear to have issues am now having them. I would think everyone would or would not have the same problems.

Also my Capitalone mastercard acct can acknowledge my email verification by sending me an email but cannot send me statements. I do not have them blocked in any way. I also havent changed my rules in preferences any.

It is going to be a real pain to have to change email adresses if it comes to that. Also I like having a .mac address so I can keep macs in my friends faces!

Any help in educating me here appreciated. Blasting ok to a point but make it useful please or at least funny and intertaining.

How full is your Mailbox - the default .Mac service only allows 15MB max (total across all mailboxes)? (It's easiest to check this using the online .Mac account using the "Show Folders" section, FWIW). If you are near this limit, then it could be the cause of your problems - archive any e-mails you need to keep to your Mac's hard drive by creating a new "Archive" Mailbox in the Mail "On Your Mac" section then delete them from your .Mac account (be sure to empty the Trash to truly clear them from your account). Back up your archive every now and then (from your ~/Library/Mail folder) so you don't lose it if you have a hardware failure.

Also, there is a 3MB size limit on individual e-mails you can receive - are the ones that aren't coming through bigger than this?

Other than that, the service can simply be flaky. Not a lot you can do about it other than not rely on it for mission critical stuff and complain at the .Mac Support fora.

That limitation well and truly SUCKS. My free email solutions have 10 MB limits, but the mac.com one is my "business" address. I frequently receive demos and other music that are between 3 and 10 MB, and I have to point out an alternate address each time.

I keep my mailbox up to date so it is never close to full. Some emails could be over the limit but that doesn't explain why sometimes the mail will come quickly and sometimes in an hour or even more.

As far as my master card bill not being able to come through I don't charge THAT much that the bill would be over the size limit!!

Although a new ibook is tempting! Darn. They send a snail mail bill when the electronic one won't go through.
