Hi,

Does anybody experience browser crashes when using the DivX 5.0.7 decoder and the QuickTime plugin?

Safari, Camino, and Mozilla all crash whenever I try to watch a DivX movie with the QuickTime plugin. Sometimes I can watch the movie (without sound), and then the browser crashes. Other times there's no video at all, and I only have the QuickTime controls at the bottom. Or, I see the first frame of the video, but the QuickTime controls do not respond. Or the browser crashes before the movie finishes downloading.

DivX movies play fine in the QuickTime player, sound and all, no doctoring required thanks to the DivX 5.0.7. But they won't play in my browsers.

I've tried selecting and unselecting the "Play movies automatically" setting in the QuickTime prefs panel. I've turned off the AVI MIME type, but then it doesn't play in a browser at all, and instead launches the QuickTime player. But I want embedded movies to play in the browser as they were meant to be played. I've tried just the DivX codec, I've tried just the 3ivx codec, I've tried just the ffmpeg codec, I've tried the DivX codec with the ffmpeg codec, I've tried the DivX codec with the 3ivx codec. None of the combos work.

I'm inclined to think that I'm the only one having these problems, as Google hasn't returned any references to anybody else experiencing the same problems. Is it just me?

All the Google results point to instructions on how to play DivX movies in a media player app. That works fine for me, I just want to play them in my browser.

I've got a G4 450MHz AGP graphics with 512MB RAM and a Geforce2 MX video card, OS X 10.2.6, QuickTime 6.3, DivX 5.0.7, 3ivx 4.0.4, ffmpeg 2.1 (build 65), Safari 1.0, Camino 0.7, and Mozilla 1.4.

Please help!

Thanks,

Gron-gron
