I'm trying out a few video players for OSX, including Quicktime of course, MS Media Player 7, mplayerosx, VLC, and some other random ones I can't remember offhand.
One common issue I see is I can't seem to get a full-screen mode but still have access to on-screen controls. Even MS Media Player doesn't seem to do it, which is odd since MP8 for Windows has the *perfect* on-screen control setup for full-screen. If there's a way to get these controls to pop up in any of the aformentioned players, please let me know, since I can't find them.

Nasrudin sat on a river bank when someone shouted to him from the opposite side: "Hey! how do I get across?" "You are across!" Nasrudin shouted back.

I've been thinking of reintroducing this to VLC, but that will still take some time.

IIRC - the controls pop up from the bottom and top of the screen a la dock on command, then hide again after a second or two.

I don't have access to an mp8 machine at the moment, but it pops up a small group of controls in the lower left corner, like stop, pause, position slider, etc. It doesn't change the dimensions of the image at all, unlike MP9 which they completely screwed up with this. The controls pop up when the mouse is moved, and they disappear if the mouse is idle for a couple of seconds.

Same with Apple's DVD player.

What about EyeTV? You don't need the hardware to use it as a QuickTime player. It has nice onscreen controls that fade in and out when you're in fullscreen.
