I was bored of TV apps only having US TV listings - so I am hacking together a world TV listing app:

http://www.monkeyfood.com/thestuff/f...TVFrontEnd.jpg (160k)

It's quite hack-y at the moment, and relies on XMLTV being installed (available through Fink)

Would people be interested in something like this?

n.b - The TV picture is shown by another app - not mine. (Formac studio TVR)

This would be great - I look forward to it.

I know nothing about these things but would there be any advantage to it being a Sherlock channel?

Theoretically - it probably should be a Sherlock Channel - but I don't know XQuery or JavaScript - so I think I'll stick to Cocoa - especially as it allows me to use other tech, like AppleScript, unix tasks and External FrameWorks.

it depends on your XMLTV grabber config - you get to choose which channels are listed.

I believe Television X is in the options.

Isn't that Pr0n?

Are you aiming for something along the lines of Digiguide for the Mac. This would be cool, Instead of Sherlock, how about some sort of iCal intergration for alarms and such.

yes - that's exactly what I was planning - also with some applescript integration with Formac's TVR software.

iCal is a good idea - It appears to have some applescript-ability so it might work.

I have been waiting for something like this in the UK. Good luck. Will it be a free service?

You can get Public Beta 1 here:

http://www.monkeyfood.com/software/tvlist/

p.s. despite the title of this thread it is not UK only any more - any of the XMLTV Grabbers will work - so it should work for any of the following countries:

United Kingdom tv_grab_uk, tv_grab_uk_rt
Canada tv_grab_na
United States tv_grab_na, tv_grab_us_gist
Austria and Germany tv_grab_de
Sweden and Norway tv_grab_sn
New Zealand tv_grab_nz
Finland tv_grab_fi
Italy tv_grab_it
Spain tv_grab_es
Netherlands tv_grab_nl, tv_grab_nl_wolf

n.b. - there are some sample XMLTV listings included = but they won't be very useful - for the app to be useful you need XMLTV installed (to grab new listings) - The easiest way to install XMLTV is through Fink.

Oh yes - here's a new screenShot:

http://www.monkeyfood.com/thestuff/f...ntEndBeta1.jpg

and here's another one showing the iCal integration. (alas Alarms cannot be set via applescript - so you have to tun on the alarms yourself.)

Hmmm, I can't find any sign of XMLTV through Fink. Is it actually called XMLTV or something else.

You have to go to the "Fink" tab of Fink Commander's Preferences - and check the "Use Unstable Packages" checkbox.

The console spits this out:

2003-09-07 02:21:18.703 TVList[498] awaking
2003-09-07 02:21:19.678 TVList[498] awoken
2003-09-07 02:21:19.682 TVList[498] parsing XMLTV file
2003-09-07 02:21:19.685 TVList[498] Failed to load (null)

Sorry about that - I wasn't checking to see if the file specified in the preferences actually existed.

Fixed in PB2:

Beta 2 fixed it. Thanks.

I'm sure you have it planned, but being able to configure the channels etc through the GUI would make it a lot more accesible to more users.

Yes - alas I managed to Freeze my Server in London while I was away in the country (grrr.)

It won't be available until later today.

I am working on it - Very slowly (so far you can refresh the listings from the app, not just the command line.)

I really want to try and get it so that you don't have to have fink installed (I want to include the Command Line Tools in the App Bundle.)

I'll update this thread as soon as there is news.
