When using Mail.app, is anyone else having difficulties sending mail right now? I have not been able to send a single email in a long time, and I'm certain that it's not because the server is down. Would anyone know my problem?

Not sure, this is why I use sendmail though.

While I personally haven't had amy problems sending mail, there might be one solution that I can offer you. .Mac email requires authentication to send mail. You'll have to go into your account prefs and check the box that says something to the effect of "my mail server requires authentication". I'm not on a mac at the moment so I can't tell you exactly what it says. If that box is not checked, I've seen some strange errors come up. Hope this helps!

Who is your isp? Most of the major ISP's have started blocking port 25 outgoing. This means that you cannot use smtp.mac.com. You HAVE to use the smtp server that the ISP provides. Contact your ISP and see if they are blocking port 25.

RCN DID block port 25. After some exhaustive searching, one random site (NOT EVEN RCN) was able to give me an alternate smtp that I tried out. It worked, too.

For those RCN users out there, the new SMTP is smtp.starpower.net.

I have had similar problems with Mail. In fact, it is getting old quick.

Mail gives errors on EVERY Mac I have had with OS X, and EVERY Mac that my switcher friends own.

We constantly get the "the server was unable to send the message.....blah blah blah...." and the other message that says "the password for account XXXXX was rejected". The passwords were never changed.

For no apparent reason, The problems seem to fix themselves. I have never had these issues with ANY other email client, including Entourage, Outlook Express, and Eudora.

What is the deal with authentication? I have tried it on and off and I get the same problems.

I am seriously bummed about thinking about dumping Mail and using something else.

Mail occassionally pops up and says my password is wrong. Trying to send it again generally resolves the problem. Who knows *shrug*

Somebody said it might have to do with the Keychain not being loaded or the password getting corrupted in the Keychain.

Whatever it is....it never happened to me with any other email clients. It is disappointing to think that Microsoft's email client is more reliable than Apple's, but that seems to be the case.
