I just wanted confirmation from anyone using it here.
If I read correctly the digidesign site, is it totally imposible to run the app. without DigiDesign's hardware components ?
(I mean as FinalCut can be run without a pluged camera).

another thing, the DigiDesign store is down for the next 2-3 days, does anyone know the price for the app. ?
I looked for in on google and some mac stores with no results

Thx

Hi

You can use the free version of Protools without adding any hardware, it just uses your built-in sound card. It is fully featured but with some limitations e.g. only 8 audio tracks (with 127 midi).

Don't know if they have provided an OSX version of free yet - you may need to boot in 9. (assuming that you can!)

AFAIK you cannot buy "just the app" when you purchase protools - it comes with the hardware need to make it go. It certainly will not be possible to run a commercial version of the software without the associated hardware anyway.

Not sure of the prices, sorry. I'm outside of the US.

I am using Protools LE 5.1 with a digi001 system here.

Hope this helps.

Cheers
