My Excel settings have been really screwed up. Here is the problem (I can an e-mail screen prints but can't post them):

My default worksheets have a row hight of 3 and a column width of 10. When I type text, it is invisible, except in the formula bar. It appears that the cursor has been shrunk to minimal size. Changing the font size or color doesn't help. I can change the column width or row hight but that doesn't make the text visible. I have uninstalled and installed office numerous times.

When I open a spreadsheet created by others or that I have previously saved I get equally screwy results with a similar appearance.

I have trashed the excel (an all office) preferences numerous times. I am using the latest release of OS X.2 and Office X updated through 10.1.3.

Any ideas?

I figured out the problem. MS Office's fonts were screwed up. I used the MS Office uninstaller utility from the disk to remove office and its fonts (I hadn't checked the remove fonts option on my previous uninstalls). When I reinstalled MS Office, Excell worked fine. The clue to the problem being the fonts was that Word behaved o.k. with some fonts but then crashed when I tried to use others. That's why Excel wouldn't display text in cells that it recognized as being in the formula bar.

I hope this post helps someone else.
