Mail has been acting up recently. Sometimes it won't retrieve new messages from the server with or without an error message. Most of the times it works fine. Mozilla works flawlessly with the same exact settings. Any idea?

Sometimes I get the usual "unable to retrieve mail from server..." or something like that. But mostly, the "preparing to retrieve..." message on the bar stays there for a while with the icon spinning, and then no new mail and no error message. I use another mail program and the new messages are there.
Update:
switched to Panther AND bought a new iBook. Mail.app still has trouble retrieving messages. The "preparing to retrieve messages..." with spinning icon stop running after 30 seconds and it looks like it didn't find any new messages, but in fact the new messages are on the server; Entourage retrieves them. I suspect now it's a problem with Comcast servers and Mail.app. Any idea how to fix this?
