When I am typing an url entry into Safari, it automatically starts guessing the entry with all the urls in the bookmarks which are similar. Sometimes I want to go to the site in the bookmark but with a shorter url. For example I want to go to www.macnn.com but my bookmard reads www.macnn.com/support.php. etc.etc.etc Can I stop this feature?

I've already tried deleting history. They are not from the history, they are from the bookmarks.

Just carry on typing, the guest URL will get ignored.

They are not from the history, they are from the bookmarks.
Then delete those bookmark entries, or as suggested, just keep typing.

When the entry pops up, just press the delete key, then press return to go.

Doesn't Safari choose the root url by default?...

I understand your problem. But as Synotic said, I think Safari uses the root domain first. In any case, did you know that once the list of sites pops down from the address bar you can use your up and down arrow keys to get to the one you want?

Thank You Maxintosh... that appears to be the solution.

It does not. If it's auto-completing a bookmark, it will do the whole URL. And even from the history, it'll only start at the root of the domain IF you always navigated in from the front page. If you always enter a URL with a directory or page, it will complete to that instead.

I, too, find it annoying at times.

Just to clear up what Maxintosh advised me to do .. which does work .. I start typing the url .. Safari starts completing it for me ... I continue typing through the mess.. at the end of my typing, I press delete, and whatever is left over disappears. Then I'm good to go!
