I agree with the poster. I've LOVE to see the quicktime player get some of the same functions as iTunes. I've got loads and loads of video archived, and I'd love to be able to have one more Apple iApp that did more than just playlists...

While VLC does playlists, it has an asstacular UI. I mean really, compare it to iTunes.
I halfway wonder it, after all the new fixes to Quicktime are done if Apple doesn't replace the player with something akin to iTunes. If, as some suspect, Apple is readying a home media player iMac like product, then we should expect something like that.

I write an app that I like to think of as iTunes for Video, but I am aware that it has many shortcomings, and as is it's mostly useful for content creators rather than end users. There is a more robust app called cellulo for that purpose.
Anyway, as a developer I would appreciate if you guys could be more specific about features. What exactly would you like to see in an "iTunes for Video"? The interface is simple enough (cellulo and my app both have it), it's the little things people like me need to hear about from people like you in order for it to get done. What specifically are the most important features you would need?
I'm sure I don't have to tell you how miserable it can be waiting for Apple to finally release what you're waiting for, and in this case we haven't gotten any indication they're even working on it.

You might want to try foottrack (see versiontracker) it sounds just what you are looking for.

I'm working on a project that sounds like what you guys are asking for.
Has organization for video/audio, built in quicktime viewer, export support, full screen.
Can't say much more because its still in heavy development. Divx support will most likely happen. WMV and RealPlayer support has a smaller chance of happening. We're also writing video sharing a la Rendezvous (like iTunes) but Quicktime Streaming looks to be best supported in Java :sigh:. Theres two people working on writing the streaming classes.
Keep your eyes out for it in the next few months.

Cellulo is pretty amazing. I'm taking it for a spin right now.
Off the top of my head, my most serious complaint is that I can't make sub-playlists. That is, I can't have a bunch of movies categorized by Action/Adventure or whatever, and then have a category called "Television," beneath which is a category called "Buffy" or "The West Wing."
Going to play with it a little more over the next few days.
Thanks for the heads up!
Cheers
Scott
