In itunes it only seems possible to get track names from cddb if its for an entire cd, not if an album is saved on the hard disk ( labeled track1, 2...) If using winamp in windows it's possible to update track information even if those are on the HD, so is this also possible on the mac, even if different software is required? Looking for an answer! Thank you...

It is in iTunes. You might have to make a separate playlist of the album first. I know you can because I did it with a CD last week. I just cannot remember how exactly.
