And it opens in Windows Media player than suddenly IE opens saying

Windows Media Update
In order to play this file, you need to upgrade your media player to a version compatible with Windows Media Rights Manager V7. Select View Compatible Players below to see a list of compatible media players.

If your current media player does not have a Windows Media Rights Manager V7 compatible version, you should select a different player with the Windows Media Rights Manager V7 identifier.

Now what the hell am I supposed to do? I'm sure none of the players work for Mac or have plugins that work for Mac. I tried mPlayer but that doesn't work. I tried classic Windows Player but taht doesn't work either.

I think that movie was formatted for Windows Media 9, which is not available for Mac, but Microsoft is supposedly making a Mac version. Just like the Mac version of Halo, VPC for the G5, IE 6... oh.... wait.

until someone from mplayer or ffmpeg development reverse-engineers the new wmv codec. We're out of luck. Your only option is to use virtualPC and convert it to mpg or something. tmpgenc does a nice job.
