I like producing 'proper' PDFs through Acrobat, rather than via the system software.

For a while, I have been using the Adobe PDF printer driver which comes with Acrobat 6. Then recently, it failed to create files, just producing error logs.

So, I turned to generating postscript files in a watched folder with Distiller converting these into PDFs. Normally this fails, leaving me with the .ps file and an error like:

%%[ Error: undefined; OffendingCommand: distillsave ]%%

Now, if I drag the raw .ps file onto the Distiller window, normally I get the same error, but if I persist with a file and do it a number of times, eventually I will get a good PDF. How come? This might take 7 or 8 attempts, dragging the same file into Distiller, getting numerous errors and then one good PDF. Any ideas?

(I have uninstalled and reinstallled Acrobat and Distiller, trashed as many .plist files as seemed logical, to no beneft.)

Whenever I get those errors in Distiller 5 (running in Classic) I have to quit and relaunch it. That seems to fix the problem--not sure if it would work for Distiller 6, though.
I do not like those green links and spam.
I do not like them, Sam I am.

Fonts. I had to re-install all my fonts from scratch, but once in proper order, no more errors <touches wood> this was after trying everything but that- my guess is I had too many helvetica's (or whatever) ie system, foundry1, foundry2, client supplied... it crapped out on that :? however, it worked for me... <touches wood again>

OK, what's the best way to do this? Reinstall fonts from the installer disk, copy them from another Mac?

I used the supplied disks from the foundrys- there is a chance that the fonts on another mac are corrupt too. Are you talking about system fonts though? It may not be the same issue if it is... I was talking about my non- system postscript fonts.
