Word is constantly fscking up my files, I create a word document, save it, then I choose print go through the dialogues, BANG, the fscker goes all weird, completely screws the formatting starts spraying words all over the page. So I close the document, then try and reopen the saved version, and I get the message saying it is not a valid word doc.

Corrupt documents seem to be a ubiquitous problem with Word. Have you tried turning off some of the supect preferences, like Fast Saves, and turning off some of the AutoFormat features like Styles? This helps sometimes.

Fast Saves has been known to really hose documents since the early days. Fast Save saves all edits and changes at the bottom of the document. A "Normal" save will save all the appropriate changes to the actual document itself.

If you drag a Fast Saved document with a bunch of formatting/editing changes into SimpleText, BBedit, TextEdit, etc. you'll see that the body of the text doesn't show your changes and there is a bunch of binary data at the bottom of the file. If you then resave the document as a "Normal" document, all the changes are merged with the text and there is a lot less binary data at the bottom of the document.

Personally, I would trash all the preference files, trash Office and reinstall a fresh copy. You can also try to delete your printer, quit Print Center, restart it and add the printer back in. Whenever Word starts up, in "connects to printer", so there may be something screwed-up with whatever Word does with this "connect to printer" process it does.

Good luck. Let us know what works.

You need to delete the "Normal" template from the following location:

~/Applications/Microsoft Office X/Templates/Normal

Once that is deleted, re-launch Word (the template will generate a fresh copy at that time)...
