I have been in the process of making the "switch" in the past few months. I tried a demo of BBEdit 7.x and I notice that it will open read-only files such as my httpd.conf file. I have been having a problem finding another program that will open these read-only files from within the program.

Any suggestions for an editor aside from BBEdit? I can't afford that one at this time.

On the PC at work I use NoteTab Pro, alot like BBEdit, but also has tabs like Safari.

[edit] - whoops misread your post.

not a very helpful suggestion - but you can use "sudo pico" in the terminal.

Check out my post in this thread, http://forums.macnn.com/showthread.p...hreadid=163976

Though I use TextEdit as an example in that thread, follow the same procedure, but you might try SubEthaEdit(Formerly known as Hydra) http://hydra.globalse.org/ , as it has some really nifty syntax hilighting and such (Plus it's free).

OK, tried it Rooter. AWESOME.

I tried it with a couple of different editors and it works great. Now I just have to decide on an editor.

Diggory, thanks for the sudo tip. I'm still a little more at home in the GUI world, but still good to know. Thanks.
