I have tried to apply 10.1.2, 10.1.4, and 10.1.5 to my Office app. but all I get is a spinning beachball in InstallerVise. I haven't been dilligent in upgrading, and I wondered if I forgot something. I don't use it much at all, but I want to try to keep it up to date, especially if there are security issues. Thanks for any help.

If you have any mounted network volumes, the installer will search through those too, which can take a long time. Unmount any unnecessary volumes before launching any InstallerVISE installer.

Thanks Art. I turned off iDisk and also quit all running apps. Everything scooted right through.

Why the hell would it need to search all your disks? It could just use LaunchServices to find the existing copy of Word.

Who knows? It is M$ after all. All I know is that it worked without a hitch after hiding the iDisk and quitting all running apps. I gotta get a PowerBook so I can start playing around with Open Office.

Who knows? All I know, and it's been echoed by any others, is that Installer VISE installers suck. I think they did the bare minimum to get them working on OS X.
They have many problems. They needlessly search all volumes even when you tell it which volume to install on. They often won't run from a network volume. If it requires an admin account, then you have to use it while logged in as an admin. It doesn't give you an option to authenticate as an admin when logged in as a standard user. Many developers still use several OS 9 options in their OS X installers, such as quitting all other apps and forcing a restart.
