I lost all my data from my address Book today. Anyone else ever have that happen? The files are all still there but must be no good because Address Book won't open them...

Any comments would be nice...

I don't really know how to get your Address Book back, but here are some suggestions:

Try importing them into a different PIM, Palm Desktop is a free download and if you have access to Microsoft Entourage, try that.

After importing them into a different PIM, try exporting them as vcards and then reimporting them into Address Book.

When you get them back, sign up for .mac, download Backup and Backup your Address Book to your .mac server every morning.

Just set it and Forget it!

First, quit Address Book.

Next, go to your ~/Library/Application Support/Address Book and make a backup copy of all the files.

Next, if your directory contains any file with the extension of "index", then delete it.

Try running Address Book again.

Did that fix the problem?

No... neither of those things worked.

Address Book simply can't read the .data file anymore...

I can only open the file with like TextEdit and stuff...

I think it must have corrupted or something...

Try to repair permissions. AB may not be able to read the file because it doesn't have permission.

See if another user on the machine can import your data into the AB and read it....

One last suggestion (trying to save your mail).

Try using another program to read and repair the "mbox" files. Mail.app uses standard "mbox" files.

Here is an open source program you can install and try:

http://www.collaboration-world.com/c...dex.cgi?pid=2/

At this point you've got nothing to loose, and this other program may be able to rebuild the mailbox.
