There won't be any problem at all since most software comes as .sit .hqx or .dmg's, all of which are compressed formats packed to travel through any computer and any network.
When burning a CD, you also don't have to worry much about the formatting. If they're using Roxio's Easy CD Creator at your place of work or school, stick with regular 'Data CD' formats and stay away from the 'DirectCD' format.
While I personally haven't had any problems with any format i've burned at school (Including those burned directly from Windows XP Explorer) I have heard of some people having some issues with anything other than Data CD (ISO9660) formatted CDs.
If I were you, I'd just burn a CD-RW with whatever defaults the machine has for burning and trying it at home. If it doesn't work, just erase the CD and try another format the next day.
