From the faq on Adobe's website. How ironic that only windows can imbed QuickTime movies....

Q.
Why is there a disparity between the features in the Windows and Macintosh versions of Acrobat?

A.
There is parity between versions for the features that will appeal to creative professions, such as PDF/X-compliance, viewing and printing of color separations, and preflighting. There are features that are unavailable on the Macintosh such as browser-based viewing of PDF files, tagged PDF file creation from Microsoft Office X, and the ability to embed and play QuickTime compatible media.

Apparently, Adobe can't image that creative professionals would want to embed quicktime video in a pdf.

I'm really getting tired of this sort of thing. I don't know if it's Apple's fault (their technology) or if it's laziness and/or spite on Adobe's part.

If it's not Microsoft trying to screw us (MSN Messenger, Windows Media Player), then it's some other company that just wants to suck up to PC users.

I wish Apple had enough clout to prevent this sort of thing from happening in the first place.

Strange how Adobe can't or won't add browser-based pdf viewing, yet some 3rd party developer does it (pdf_plugin).

Of course they can. Nobody claimed otherwise. The criticism is since you completely missed it is that it isn't ALREADY implemented. Nobody could care less about what Adobe will do in the future. We live in the 'now'.
I could take Sean Connery in a fight... I could definitely take him.

Well I just use the Preview application in Panther! I don't like Acrobat Reader it is such a lame Macintosh port. In my line of work I receive a lot of pdf's (and Word docs) and I've had no problems with any of the pdf's in Preview. Thanks Apple!

While Preview is a great "viewer" for PDF files, it's not meant to be a PDF editor. It has virtually no support for PDF-based forms, and I really hate having to download a PDF file just to briefly view it (hurray for PDF-PlugIn!).

I really wish Adobe could get Acrobat's feature set to parity with Windows and get it's performance to a reasonable level. I use Acrobat 6.0 Professional, and it's dog-slow.

I have never seen a "PDF based form". Possibly because I don't use Acrobat but I don't need that feature anyway. The pdfs I need to read are reports and scientific documents. Thanks for the point though. Perhaps this is something Apple should add to the Preview program?

I've filled in tons of them when applying for a Canadian work permit. Everything is pdf based. Works extremely well, too.

Why would we want a browser plugin using the Adobe Reader engine when the Schubert-IT plugin uses OS X's built-in PDF rendering, which not only looks better but gives better performance?

Ticking sound coming from a .pkg package? Don't let the .bom go off! Inspect it first with Pacifist. Macworld - five mice!
