You can now extract the audio/video directly from DVD-VR discs, eg. from DVD-RAM on Panasonic's home DVD recorders.
Heuris DVD connexIT. Includes both a UDF 2 driver and DVD-VR support. (I tried a beta way back when for the DVD-VR part, but it wasn't very useful, since there was UDF 2 support.)
Currently supports Adobe Premiere, but Final Cut Pro and QT support is coming.
Home DVD recorders supported:
Panasonic DMR-HS2
Panasonic DMR-E30
Panasonic DMR-T3030
Panasonic DMR-T3040
Pioneer PRV9000
Others
DVD camcorders supported:
Panasonic VDR-M20
Hitachi Z-3000
Hitachi Z-3000W
Hitachi Z-4000W
Hitachi CRD-10
Not bad for $89 although I think the Premiere and Final Cut plug-ins have to be purchased separately.

Panasonic Industrial today announced that HEURIS has introduced DVD ConnexIT for Mac OS X and QuickTime, the first QuickTime plug-in specifically developed for A/V and PC convergence between Panasonic DVD-RAM products. The new tools bring Mac OS X compatibility to Panasonic's OEM SW-9571-CYY DVD MULTI Drive, allowing Mac OS X users to playback material with QuickTime Movie Player or edit with QuickTime-based editing tools such as Final Cut Pro as well as offers direct read capability for RTRW file format. The bundle also features Software Architects's ReadDVD! v2.0 UDF file system reader for Mac OS X, which mounts and reads UDF formatted discs on any Mac.
