I just bought Sim City 4 and installed it on my G5. It seems pretty slow. I have the 1.8GHz G5 with the standard video card and 512MB RAM.

How does Sim City 4 run on the G4s?

I think this post should be under Mac Games.
But yea, I'm suprised that it would run slow on the G5. I don't have the game, so I can't tell you how well it runs on the G4, sorry.

My understanding of SimCity 4 is that it runs slow on just about everything, even the latest P4's with tons of RAM.

Sim City 4 is just slow. Although it shouldn't be unplayable on a G5.

It's certainly playable. The only slow part is graphics - scrolling to different parts of the map and redrawing when zooming in or out. It's very responsive to clicks and such, and if you put it in the fastest mode, the days really do fly by.

Well since you've got a G5 and must have loads of money to burn why don't you get the best graphics card available ? That will certainly improve the graphics.

I don't expect alot from Sim City 4 though, part of the problem is the game itself.

hahaha, so true. But yea, I do have Simcity 4 on my PC when it first came out. I have a very nice AMD 2500 XP with 333 bus computer with 1.5 gigs of ram, and ATI 9700 Pro graphic card. Even with all that, the game still runs slow. That game was just poorly made.

They still have the B&W classic 68k SimCity code in there...oh yeah, and the debug code.

LOL! There is no 'newest version', You can't even get the download updates from the Maxis SC4 site, (yes the PC updates etc. do work on the Mac version) because you can't sign up to the site with the Mac serial. Maxis says you have to download them from Asspire, but they haven't shown any sign of doing anything.

All the people on the SC4 forum's are getting exited over the Rush Hour' expantion pack (due at the end of this month), Asspire hasn't even begun the Mac port yet, and they have said they will only do it if they think there is enough demand for it.

Oh and remember the Mac version has it's own night time bug, some of the buildings just get a yellow tint instead of lighting up. This bug was never in the PC version.

With publicity like this, the demand is obviously going down...you've already convinced me not to buy

ahahahahah!

I have a G4 and it runs fast (dual 1.25). Did someone accidentally slip a 68k processor into your G5, thread starter boy? You better send the machine back, then!

Survival of the fittest is the game.

I don't think SimCity 4 is fit from my experience and from other people's experience. It's only logical that SimCity gets wiped away.

People shouldn't be buying that game for various reasons.

It's also time they rethink the gameplay. Bring back a 32-bit color version of SimCity or SimCity 2000 and I'll play. But this 3D **** on a rendering engine that is a) either unoptimized or b) to complex for current computers was a bad move. The micromanagement added in SimCity 4 is also dumb.

They took a simple and fun game/concept (SimCity) and made it into a complex and doubtfully as fun game (SimCity 4).

I eagerly await the "shut up, SimCity 4 is 1000 times better than SimCity" comments.

I blame Maxis for not developing Mac versions in house.

Every Maxis game is released for Mac eventually, so why do we have to wait for the PC version before Aspyr can start the Mac port?
