Periodically I accidentally close a Safari window. It's really quite easy to do, and when you had 6 tabs open and watch your window vanish, it's pretty annoying.

So why isn't "undo" available after closing a window? It seems like it would be quite useful, and I can't imagine it would be that hard to implement either.

It doesn't matter quite as much in many other apps because if there's unsaved work they'll ask you if you're sure before closing. When there are multiple views of the same document, though, it'd be nice to be able to get back a view you just closed.

Is it just me or is this an obvious missing feature?

Mozilla 1.5 seems to have a warning available (I turned it off) if you try to close a window that has more than one tab

rather than an "undo" a confirmation dialog similar to when you close a document with unsaved changes would work nicely. Particularly if you could turn it off in a preference.

(FWIW, this was requested some time ago of the OmniWeb folks, and my guess is that it'll be in 5.0)

I think this would be a problem due to security issues. Suppose you're reading your mailbox via net and closed the window, someone else could "undo" and break into your account.

A confirmation would be fine, but has the disadvantage of getting in your way every time you close a window, whereas the undo would always be there as a safety net for the occasional times it's needed....

[edit] Interesting point regarding the potential security hole. Hafta think about that. Sorta points to the confirmation dialog as the safer solution. Hmm...

I'd have to vote for the confirmation dialogue. I've lost a couple tab-filled windows that way myself. So long as it was a preference, I think it'd work fine...
