I can't send mail through my .Mac account through the default smtp server. I keep getting this message in Mail:

The outgoing mail server "smtp.mac.com" refused to allow a connection on port 25.
This has been like this since I became a .Mac member for the first time a couple of weeks ago. Anyone have a clue as to what might be causing this problem?

The internet is run through a proxy (could that be a problem) - else I am using the latest Mail app with the latest Jagwire. Thanks!!

have you set up your account settings to use authentication for smtp.mac.com?

in Mail.app>preferences>account>smtp:options

I have set my password and username for .Mac there.

SSL is not checked. :/

hmm... it should work unless you are trying to send an email through smtp.mac.com that you are not writing from your_name@mac.com. I think i had trouble with that before.

Maybe try setting up your account in mail.app again?

Thanks - no luck though.

I am using 2 accounts on the same computer, one is my Uni email account and the other is .Mac. My ISP is also my Uni and I connect to the internet through ADSL with VPN I think. I use a proxy for ftp an html (but mail doesn't use those does it?)

All in all everything works except smtp.mac.com, Backup app through iDisk and Virex 7.2 internet update (the latter 2 fail because they don't work with a proxy) so I was wondering if it could be a proxy thing(?)

All of them are .Mac services (see a pattern?)
