Some how I've deleated my copy of World Book v 6.0.2 which came with my flat panel iMac's hard drive (its the 700mhz model) and I can't discover how to reinstall it.

The World Book CD doesn't contain any installation files its just a data disc and so is no use. I've looked through the discs which came with the machine and no individual file for World Book seem exist. So I'm assuming it was installed along with the OS software.

The problem is since buying the machine I've installed Jaguar over the origianl OS. As a result I'm loath to muck around with the original OS discs because of the problems that might cause.

Does anyone know an easy solution to this problem or do I just give up on World Book.

I believe the only way to re-install world book is to do a system restore. I had the same problem you did and just gave up on it. Your machine came with what i'm sure is labeled the "Media CD". All that is is movies and such

If you have a backup of your HD (you should if not) then you could simply drag over the World Book application from that backup and you would be set...

Thanks cSurfr. Yeah all I've got is the Media CD.

gorickey I back up my files but not my hard drive, I have no hardware to do it.

I'm loath to do a system restore because it would mean clearing the hard drive, installing OS X 1.2 and then OS X 2 over the top and then downloading all the updates to Jaguar. I've saved most of the updates but not the first few and my internet connection is just so slow. An 80 megabit download would take about 5 hours.

Looks like I'll have to buy the new iMac and be more carefull next time.

There should be a "Software Restore" CD among the various CDs that came with your iMac. You should be able to reinstall the World Book program from that without having to do a clean system install.

Well cpac I gave it a go and got no-where. There are four Software Restore discs and I put the first one, restarted the computer and held down the "C" keys as instructed. When everything loaded up I went through the install process. When I got to the message saying that if I continued I would errase everything on my hard drive I decide that this path had reached a dead end.

no no, there should be an ability to install a utility program called "Software Restore" on your computer. You should be able to launch that, and using the CDs in conjunction with that program you should be able to get World Book back up without erasing everything.

If you enable invisible files with pathfinder, Fruitmenu or other SW you should be able to locate an invisible file on the SW restore disc.
The SW should be somewhere in the "invisible" directory or in a .dmg stored in that directory.
