iChat 1.0.1 (v51.4)

Well, it does not work all that well, given the fact that Apple has started to sell iSight way before we can get a final release of iChat AV.

I mean it sucks pretty bad, I saw it on a G5 1.6, once installed and you are communicating with someone over the net via VIDEO, (not full screen), the computer is struggling!!!! It eats up all the processor power. Look when you use it next time and see how much processor blocks it takes up in that software Apple provided to see the progress...

To be honest, the sound get terrible, and it uses too much CPU on video, still in BETA and yet they are using full marketing sales on iSight.

I don't get it?

And yes I did buy an iSight and so I am fearing that it will be like this when using on my new G5 1.8...

Let us hear of those who use iChat Beta AV, quite often and how it effects their system...

saw the vision of the
world , and all the wonders that would be.”

We use it all the time to communicate with our developers. As they are based in different countries iChat is saving us a fortune in phone calls.

It works brilliantly.

Works brilliantly here too.

Lyra, you HAVE to understand how iChat work with iSight. High-CPU is because of iChat compressing each frames before sending it to your video buddy. You also will have to uncompress the frames your buddy sent you.

Compressing is VERY CPU-intensive.

edit: Why does it matter to you if it's beta or not? Almost all softwares you use are always in beta. No difference, really.

For me, an Apple software in beta means it is only in English. I understand English, but it is always more pleasant to use your native language.

My two euro cents.

It works perfect here too.
try going to iChat av preferences, click on the video icon and set the Bandwidth Limit to 100, I'm pretty sure that will solve your problem.
