Recently I've been having a problem where Safari can't load most of the small icon images in the Macnn forums. I just get the little blue square with question mark. This applies to most smilies, the stars under folks names, the icons for each thread in the main views, the "Post Reply" and "Post New Topic" buttons, etc. I have noticed this problem only occasionally on other websites, and it is Safari-specific.

If I try to open one of these images (example: http://www4.macnn.com/macnn/forums/wink.gif) in a new window, I get the error returned from the server:
400 Bad Request
Your client has issued a malformed or illegal request.
This is baffling me. Any ideas?

I see the same thing after using the forum for a while. Quitting and relaunching Safari fixes it for a little while, then it comes back.

Do you run PithHelmet by any chance? I have suspected that it is at fault, but I have not verified it.

I have the same problem, with both Safari 1.0 and 1.1 in Panther. Quitting and re-starting always works for me too. I have never installed any of the Safari enhancers so it can't be that.

I suspect that MacNN is getting overloaded. i.e. they don't have enough servers.

I have a similar problem regardless of what application I use or even whether I'm on XP or OSX. A lot of times the problem only lasts a few moments.

Who says ya can't get good info on these forums?

I deleted the Macnn bbthreadview cookie and voila, images are back. Cool. Hope they can fix the errant vBulletin code, but in the meantime this is a quick fix.

Thanks!
