I have a pretty dilemma here:

I have receive a Word document with a fair bit of text with macrons. Opening this up in WordX brings up missing characters. Taking it into Quark (under Classic) gives me lots of junk.

So I opened the file in Word under Virtual PC and as expected, everything looks fine: typeface is Times.

Copying and pasting from VPC into WordX brings in the text properly with all the macrons. But I can't work with the text. If I click anywhere within the text, the typeface changes from the sans serif displayed into Times and loses the macrons. I can print the document and it looks as it should with all the macrons in the correct places.

What do I do? What do I do?

Perhaps there is a setting in prefs? Anybody have similar problems and found a solution.

TIA

Have you tried saving as RTF and using Apple's TextEdit? It's not guaranteed to work, but it's probably worth a try.

Eventually, that is exactly what I did. There were some good tips on MACOSXHINTS.
