I want to drive over to Fry's Electronics and stick a little USB thumbdrive into a PowerBook, with Virtual PC 6 on it, so that I might test out the software...since I don't have a Mac.

Any way to get a trial version of some sort?

None. In addition to the VPC app you ALSO need a drive image of the Windows OS installed (+300MB 98SE, +1GB XP).
