The Article says ::
Several readers have noted BuyMusic.com's AppleMusic.com commerical knockoffs (featured in WMF format on its Website), in which individuals are listening to music on iPod-like MP3 player singing popular songs: "Buymusic.com just ran an ad during Howard Stern's E! show that rips off Apple's iTunes Music Store [ITMS] ad, with ordinary people singing along holding a mp3 player in front of a white background. The device looks like a Creative Nomad Jukebox Zen." The commericals conclude with a tag line hinting at Apple's (currently) Mac-only service: "Music downloads for the rest of us."
BuyMusic.com says it expects to sell up to 1 million songs a day; however, only some songs are cheaper and have more restrictive, non-uniform licensing requirements, according to The USA Today: "None can be moved to Apple's iPod, which has 50% of the digital music player market, though they do work with players from Creative Labs, Rio, Lyra and others." Others note that the service is selling personal information. Apple is expected to launch a Windows version of iTunes and the ITMS by the end of the year.

It'd be cooler if Canadians, Europeans and Asians were able to buy music.

Because buymusic.com sucks. Everone I know
who's tried it has problems with the DRM. Once friend even says it's caused problems with her music files that weren't downloaded with the service. Word is that buymusic.com is crap and therefore I doubt it will make any inroads.
I personally won't deal with per song licenses. I want a blanket DRM policy period..or i'll keep my P2P and say the hell with it.

Welcome to April 2003. They said right then and there that Windows users would be getting iTunes by year's end.

For what i think, the other way round, Apple wants PC users to buy music from Apple Music Store.
Am i right??
And in additional, iTunes is "fighting" with Musicmatch.
So what? Unless Apple makes less advantage in Windows version.

It's not going to get people to move over to Windows more. This is really a good thing, it will really boost the profit for Apple for years to come, it might even be the number one profit maker later on, you never know... It's a huge market, and if Apple can take the early advantage of it and take the market, Apple will once again be on a roll.

I think Apple will make money from iTMS but in the short run it is the iPod sales they really care about. Didn't the iPod's sales increase threefold since the iTMS debuted on OSX? The margin on the iPod is probably better than most of the Macintosh computer line. From what I understand Apple makes more money from one iPod than they do from a base iMac or iBook.

PS. The iPod is a trojan horse of sorts. Apple could load the Windows version if iTunes onto the iPod or have a CD in the box so they need not worry about distribution. Who knows what else they could put on it? Quicktime?

Actually, that's what Apple itself said. They hope it entices people to look at Macs more, if iTunes for Windows looks good.
I wish them luck, because QT for Windows sure ain't the best...
And I wonder if iTunes for Windows will include built-in burning.

One halfways suspects that if the team doing iTunes for Windows does a good job that there will be a new port of Quicktime utilizing all the re-entrant improvements that Panther has.
QT's big problem is simply that its player does little more than play quicktime files. It doesn't really handle other media types very well. It also has serious limitations as anything but a simple player.
Realistically Apple needs something like iTunes or iPhoto, only for video files.
