I come from a pc, so I know off all the bullshit the www.divx.com puts in with their install files. I dont want to put up with spyware on this computer.
What is the best way to watch svcds, vcds, and divx movies on my powerbook??
Is their spyware for mac? If so how can I counter attack it.

You'll get many opinions. Here's what works best for me.
VLC.
It plays all the formats that ffmpeg supports, which include all that you've listed (except maybe divx 5?).
For quicktime, you can get the free divx 5 quicktime component. It's not spyware. Also 3ivx works VERY well for "mpeg4" based video in quicktime.

yup, I use everything with Quicktime, and if Quicktime can't play it, than I juse VLC. Just remember though, with Quicktime, if you are not a pro user, than you can't watch in full screen, if so, than just use VLC, because you can watch full screen with it.

you should know that divx.com's product for both platforms comes in 3 versions:
1. pro, for money
2. pro, for adware
3. absolutely free
the pro features are only for encoding, so by no means do you have to install the adware just for playback. And even for all the features, all you have to do is pay a little extra to get no adware

As far as I can tell, the fee Macintosh Divx codec from Divx.com doesn't install spyware.
There is a shareware app called MacVCD that plays VCDs, but you got to pay for it.
Quicktime natively supports MPEG1 (VCD), but Apple sells an MPEG-2 (SVCD) codec for Quicktime.
If you don't want to pay, then download VLC and MPlayer.
