Same here, seems to be *really* slow on expanding large files. I don't really use .sit anymore for large files. Only .zip and compressed disk images using disk copy.

As soon as you upgrade to Panther, throw everything except Stuffit Expander. Use Panther's built-in Zip compress/uncompress, it's WAY better.

I wonder if it would have been possible to vectorize that Stuffit compression engine for additional speed on G4s. I don't think we'll ever know.

How small can it shrink your files, compared to StuffIt? In my experience, .sitx has given much smaller files than .zip...

It took me well over half an hour to expand my 700mb file. It's so slow I took a nap in between because I don't want to just sit here and wait. I'm using the 17" with a gig of ram. Why is it this slow? I have no clue, all I can say is... this program's speed wise sucks. I hope Panther's own program will be faster than this slow thing.

Stuffit is definately a POS. It is slow and buggy. I am using Panther 7b80 on one of my machines and it is like hell. After using Panther ZIP I want to recompress al my files to ZIP format. It is fast and great. Only two issues

1. Panther is pre-release so I shall wait for final version

2. Panther deletes the zip file after extracting it. So I lose the original compressed file after extraction. Hope apple will give an option to keep the original file after extraction. But I still feel it is much better than stupid stuffit.

After my above test of different files, I compared stuffit and Panther ZIP more extensively and stuffit lost in every aspect.

Stuffit 8 is worse that earlier releases. It takes forever to start up and Stuffit Deluxe is very buggy.

Even worse, at least in 7.x changes permissions on any directory where you unstuff something. This is a major security flaw which hasn't gotten enough press.
