Mail, Safari, iTunes, Systems Preferences, Final Cut Express, NetNewsWire Lite, Dreamweaver MX 2004, Photoshop Elements 2.0, RBrowser Lite (word just happens to be running, I don't keep it in the dock normally)

The X is a folder that contains sub-folders

for easy access to application that I may or may not use everyday.

p.s. I keep my dock on the right, I just moved it to make it friendlier for the screenshot.

Just the running apps and a trash can.

Launches are handled by LaunchBar, windows by WindowShade and soon, Exposé.

I like to keep it simple -

Finder : Word : Entourage : Safari : Adium (with iChat icon) : iTunes

I launch all other apps using Snard or the plethora of extra keys on my Logitech Elite keyboard.

Some of you have way too much crap in your Docks...

I resent that... I only have 4 peices of crap in my dock (and that's cuz I have to be 'compatable' with everyone else)

MS Entourage (too bad it works so well)
MS Word
MS Excel
CorelDraw

I only keep a few apps that I use most often. I don't use any other apps for launching, so the Dock is it. I just launch a new window and go to the Applications folder if I need something else (which happens more often than it should, perhaps I should rethink what goes in my Dock).

and on a 1024x768 res.

Crikey. I thought mine was stupid,

Only recently I just had a few admin apps, and things like mail, address book, etc in my dock and used a folder with shortcuts to select apps.

However, I've decided against this and gone with dock dividers and put in nearly all the apps I used. I can't see **** all now until I mouse over them.

My theory is that I'm more likely to launch that app (i.e get around to something productive instead of pissing about on macnn, etc) IF the icon is right there staring at me and not tucked away in a menu. But then again everything is so small I can't see it, so maybe that plan won't work.

Ideally I'd use dockfun, but it is just too slow on my mac (imac g3 450) and doesn't work well with dock discs

If you're interested it contains:

Console, Terminal, FinkCommander, System Preferences, StuffIt Expander, X11
--artyfarty divider--
GraphicConverter, iDraw, iPhoto, iphoto droplet
--discutils divider--
Discribe OSX 5.0.36, Toast Titanium 5.2, DVDBackup, Disk Utility
--games divider--
Airburst Carbon, Chess, Oni Demo
--web divider--
iChat, Fire, Mail, Address Book, Camino, Safari, iSwipe
--music divider--
iTunes, Ogg Drop X, RealOne Player
--video divider--
DVD Player, QuickTime Player, VLC
--productivity divider--
Stickies, Calculator, iCal, AppleWorks, Adobe Reader 6.0, OmniGraffle, Script Editor
--webdesign divider--
BBEdit, Style Master, Captain FTP, Unicode Converter, UnicodeChecker
--audio divider--
Audacity, Audio Hijack, WireTap
--movie divider--
Copernicus, iMovie2, ffmpegX, MediaPipe, Sizzle, Slick Motion, VCD Builder
--otheropen divider--
Folders:
internal, firewire, home directory

I think there is too much

I bet they have, but they just haven't seen the light

BTW, I sent the developer an idea: allow the user to pop up the LaunchBar window near the cursor. I use LaunchBar as a drag&drop target, in which it excels already, but with this tweak you wouldn't have to drag over large screen distances!

Oops, it was a Dock thread.. sorry,

Finder | ShowDesktop | Safari | Mail | Proteus | StickyBrain | BBEdit | Terminal | SystemPrefs | StuffIt Expander | NeverwinterNights (temp) | PalmDesktop Drop | Pitbul (temp) | Trash

Laptop (Pismo G3 400Mhz)

Finder | ShowDesktop | Safari | Entourage | iTunes | BBEdit | Notes | SystemPrefs | Terminal | DiskCopy | StuffIt Expander | Trash

Hey keston-
the background on your desktop (DP.G4) looks pretty sweet- do you have a full image of it online somewhere? can you post a thumb?

I love the Dock... I love the ability to right click to access windows and other stuff... I love that my running programs are always in the same position, making it super quick to bring up an app. In Windoze, I go out of my way to start all my common programs first thing in the same order so that they end up in the same position... at least until one crashes... so annoying.

Hmmm... I'd post my dock here, but I don't seem to know how any more.
