hi, i have been looking into downloading the developer tools from apple and I don't know which option to download. I have a slow connection and it won't be too possible to download the bigger files. I am only really interested in a C++ compiler, so I was wondering if I could just download the August update or if I would need a previous version of the developer tools to use the August update?

Also, on a side note, if anyone knows any other c++ compilers for mac could you please point in there direction.

You need the full set. August update changes the the compiler to gcc 3.3 from 3.1, but you need the full install to start.

Just to echo what suthercd said, you need the full Developer Tools CD, the August Update is just that -- an Update.

If you're in the US, you can walk into an Apple store and get the folks at the Genius Bar to burn them for you, if you buy Mac OS X then you get the CD in the box, if you bought a new Mac then you have the CD image in /Applications/Installers, and you can order them for $20 S&H from the ADC site IIRC.
