"I was speaking with a Discreet engineer, who was helping install an SGI workstation. He mentioned that Discreet is currently looking to move to linux/OS X for its high resolution postproduction/conform application. He mentioned that currently smoke is in testing on a x86 linux box runnign SD video (2Ghz minumum). I belive next week they will be demoing this setup.

We had a little discussion on bandwidth (G5 vs Tezro/Onyx2, etc). but nonetheless, it is an interesting development."

Ooooooo, that is pretty good news. Now I can dump the SGI if they move Flame onto OS X. Now we only need Avid to port Avid DS, and I am sorted.

P.s. My brother is a beta tester for Discreet, he says Combustion 3 is amazing.

It would be interesting to compare the dual and quad 700 MHz SGI Tezro vs. the dual G5 with real-life cross platform software.
