I'm trying to find a way to export iMovie edits as MPEG1 file. Unfortunately this is not supported by iMovie or Quicktime. Is there a convertor out there that can take a QT movie and make it an .mpg file?

If you have Toast.app, then it comes with Toast Video CD component. All you need to do is "Export" the iMovie project to QuickTime using "Expert" mode and selecting the Toast component for the file format.

I'm testing if there are alternatives. I assume that if you export to DV and use, say, Mencoder, you get an mpg file too WITHOUT buying Toast.app

There are a couple of free solutions:

ffmpegx
Missing Mpeg Tools
Mpeg2works

Do a search for mpeg and convert in macupdate.

Cheers
