I was wondering if anyone has had any success with learning a foreign language with the Rosetta Stone software.
Granted, this is only an introduction into a foreign language, but will foreign language learning software on a computer at least provide language fundamentals?
Also, I've read that Rosetta has difficulties with OS X. Any thoughts on that as well?
Thanks
I think it is a pretty good way to pick up vocabulary but I think it is kind of dangerous to assume you can just "pick up" grammar things like word orders, verb conjugations, etc. So, you will probably want to actually study the language with actual books once you have gone through the software. That said, I have a really hard time picking up vocabulary from a book so I think it is pretty worthwhile.
The only problem I have with OS X is that it runs in classic and takes over the whole screen. There is not much more frustrating than having a 23" studio display completely black except for a 6"x8" square of program in the middle.. I would like to be able to leave it running and switch to it when I have a free moment.
My impression is based on the Japanese Explorer version, I am still considering whether to buy the full version. I picked up the Explorer version for $10 so that might be a good way for you to try it to see if it will work for you. They carry the explorer versions for most languages at Fry's.
