I was thinking, juts how lame it is to charge mac users for the iChat A/V. I mean I bought a G5(no free iChat A/V there), I bought a .Mac account (no free iChat A/V there) and I bought an iSight and guess what no free iChat A/V....
Now before you go " YEAH BUT IT IS FREE!!!" bla bla bla...
Well it will not be when it will hit GM when ever that will be...
I just think it stinks that I didn't even get a coupon for the upcoming Panther release in my G5 box...
So here is my question, since I am forced to pay for the final version of iChat A/V ( and yes I will have to buy it as there is an expiration date and my biz is set up to use it.)
When will we see a final version of iChat A/V??? Does anyone know anything about its development???
Yeah you can put this the bitch bitch bitch category... And lately there has been a lot of bitching going on in various Mac forums...

iChat A/V GM is in Panther...the beta is free until whenever it expires...then you have to pay for it or buy Panther.
But if you have a G5...you gotta get Panther, or you'd be shooting yourself in the foot. 10.2.7 and 10.2.8 are not what the G5 needs.
Whether or not Panther will be free to early G5 buyers is up to Apple to decide. I hope it is, but I have a feeling it won't.

Yeah I have a feeling that it will not be either... I will buy Panther no doubt about it... But I still think it is a bad thing of Apple asking us to pay for iChat...
And yes you are right, the Panther OS was shown to the world as a made to work perfect with the G5 and visa versa... When they sold me the G5, they said you should wait and see what the G5 will do with Panther...
Great I thought... But no coupon in the box...
Or wait... There was a green coupon of a sort but no mention about panther...

iChat AV is included with Panther. If you want to use it with Jaguar, you have to pay. Sure they probably work it into the price of Panther, but it's still not an "extra" cost.
And this sort of complaining (not calling you a whiner or anything) happened with Jaguar too. It's always a bummer not to get something for free or for a discount, but sometimes you just gotta lay down the cash if you want something bad enough. If you don't want it bad enough, then don't lay down the cash. And you mentioned that your business uses iChat AV? Well, maybe they can purchase it for you since it is a business tool. (or do you run your own business?)
And for the love of all that is good, please send Apple some feedback about this! They need to actually HEAR the complaints, not just echo's of complaints that come from Mac Forums.

Yup, you are right, but spending money on a G5, .mac and isight... Well you kinda think back on those days when Apple did think about giving something to their products free...
And since iSight was advertised with iChat and being a Mac user, I thought perhaps they would give with the product...
Anyway, you know it and I know it, I will pay for Panther, as well as iChat... I don't mind paying and supporting a company I love... But I feel a sudden change, I am not too happy with...
But, I guess I better bite the sour apple...
Oh well, does any one know what the differences are in iChat A/V final edition?

Ok, I can't deal with it, I am that weak...
Cause a friend of mine at Apple, told me it comes with Panther but when it is released it will ask you for a password... One pop up that will need your .mac account in which you have paid for your iChat service...
I just need to have this confirmed...
So why not ask Chewie to put you back together? Your head is screwed on backwards...

The least Apple could do is offer iChat AV free with iSight...I can't believe this is not being done.

Just because they have not mentioned it does not negate the possibility of this being offered.
Sheesh....whine when it goes GM and we really know who will have to pay and who won't beyond those who will be getting it free with Panther.

I'm in the same boat. I didn't buy a G5, but I did just buy an eMac and a Powerbook (which is yet to arrive). But I did also pay for .mac. And I did pay for the iSight camera. I feel I have parted with quite enough cash already!
I'm hoping with my recent mac purchases i'll be entitled to a free/cheap update to 10.3.
Anyway, Bad/impatient person that I am.. I have been running development versions of 10.3 on an old iMac. And it does indeed come with a much later version of iChat AV. v145 is the build number. Where as the buggy beta must of us have been running since June is v106. v145 looks identical though. It really doesn't seem any different. The functionality is the same, so I guess it's just bug fixes etc.
I did try to run iChat AV v145 in OS 10.2, but it's a no go. And I don't encourage anyone else to try it either. Because it created a bit of a mess that took me a while to sort out.
So I expect there will be a separate version produced for 10.2 users.
I fully intend to run 10.3 on all my Macs however, once it's officially released.

Really? But 3-PO, he also mentioned, that the iSight would only work with .mac with the video...
Audio is ok via AOL but not Video... Can you confirm this?

Cool, thanks... Have to make an AOL account to test it...
Thanks for the info...
Perhaps there is a way out of this...

They can't...why? Because then you would have to include coupons to LCD displays with all G5's sold, then you would have to include coupons to .Mac, then you have to include coupons....etc. etc....

YES!!!!
For Power Mac G5 systems
Customers who purchase a qualifying new Power Mac G5 (M9020LL/A, M9031LL/A, M9032LL/A) regardless of purchase date that does not have Mac OS X Panther v10.3 included can upgrade to Mac OS X Panther.
Now I am not 100% sure that my G5 is in the catagory cause my serial no is not the same... But man I hope so...
SAVED!!!!!!!

No. They're not asking for carte blanche access to everything. But, since the iSight is DESIGNED FOR iChat AV, it really isn't being unreasonable to expect that your $150 camera will actually INCLUDE THE SOFTWARE NEEDED TO USE IT without paying an extra $30 for the privilege. Or upgrading your operating system.

Well, a typical mac zealot response
Of course the software that is required should be included for free. When the beta expires, iSight users must fork out even more $$ which to me seems really stupid, as iSight and iChat are designed as "hand in glove" products.
