Every time I send a word document to a windows 2000 computer they just get a resource.frk file instead of the .doc I actually sent. This is the case both when I drag the file into the mail window, and when I manually attach it using Mail.
For some reason I just tried saving it as Word version 5.1 for mac and it managed to send the file, though without most of the formatting.
Any tips? Do I have some sort of setting off? I swear this used to work.

I've had this kind of problem when the attachment is not either the very first or last thing in the message. In other words, if there is any text or spaces before or after the attachment I will sometimes see this happen. Usually I drop the attachment at the end of the message.

thanks for the advice, but it seems that it happens all the time, even when it's the only thing in the message.

This is precisely the reason I went back to Entourage. I had lots of angry/frustrated responses to .doc attachments I sent using Mail at one point.
You might try zipping the file and then sending it with Mail.
YMMV

anyone? I'd rather not use Entourage but if it's the only way to send word documents I might have to.

Use the GrimReaper contextual-menu item before adding the .doc to Mail:

I recommend the 'Pro' version, rather than the rather annoying 'Standard' version. All are free.
Or, upgrade to Jaguar. It's Mail.app is more careful.

Mithras,
thanks for that link. Mail, under Jag, was the app that mangled .doc attachments for me.
