I was looking at http://www.apple.com/macosx/techspecs/ and to my surprise, I don't see iDVD listed anywhere! I'm assuming Apple wants us all to run out and buy iLife. If version 3 of iDVD isn't in their, than hopefully version 2 is.

Does anyone know for sure?

Thanks,
Noah

iDVD is not included in Panther.

It is included with every Mac with a SuperDrive (or just every new Mac includes the complete iLife suite? don't know for sure but my PB G4 12" Combo was bundled with complete iLife) or in iLife.

I may be buying a new 12" PowerBook soon. Apple says that the iLife suite (which includes iDVD3) comes loaded with the system (10.2), but does the software come bundled seperately with it?

In my case, I got iLife separately. In a CD (iTunes, iMovie and iPhoto) and a DVD (iTunes, iMovie, iPhoto and iDVD).

But it was when the new powerbooks were released and iLife just announced after... so don't know for sure for more current ones.

If Apple says the iLife suite is included with it, it will be, either in the Software Install DVD or separately in another DVD.

I purchased iDVD2 when it first came out. I recieved a copy of iDVD3 with my 17" PowerBook.

Problem is, I don't do anything but rudimentary editing on the PB, I would like to install the one copy I own onto my dual processor G4 tower. Unfortunately, it came on a "Software Install & Restore" DVD that the tower doesn't seem to like.

Any way around this? Seems to me that I legitimately own a copy of the software, and should be able to put it wherever I want.

If I can't do an install directly to the tower, can I install to the PowerBook, copy the appropriate files over, and then delete the copy I originally installed?

I'm honestly not trying to do anything illegal or unethical here, I just want some flexibility in how/where I use this app.

Yeah, I downloaded Pacifist last night, had problems locating it at first because the first mention I found used a misspelled name.

However, on the DVD install disc, Pacifist only finds the system install, and the installer that runs the restore operation. Seems like a majority of files on this disc are "hidden" somehow, and I don't know where to tell this app to look.

Look in the .images directory.

Have you tried just copying the app bundle from one computer to the other?

I can't find an .images directory. When I use pacifist, the only installer packages it can find are those related to the OS install, not the software restore applications.

No, I have not tried a straight copy yet. But I will.

With the DVD in the drive choose Go To Folder… (Shift-Cmd-G)

Type /Volumes/nameofdvd/.images

You should now see a window with the images - one of them is iDVD.
