Not long after Jaguar was released, I read of a method to enable Menu Extras by creating a link from one system directory to another, but now even Google can't locate it. Unsanity's Menu Extra Enabler isn't enabling Magic Menu 6.5.1 on my G5, but the link/alias method did work on my G4--finding that link now is like a needle in a haystack. Does anyone else recall this method, and where it was explained? TIA.

Code:
sudo ln -s /System/Library/Frameworks/ApplicationServices.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/HIServices.framework /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/HIServices.framework
This one?

Awesome, thanks! This allowed weatherpop to work on Panther, without using haxies .

Oh oh. This broke in Panther, or at least Magic Menu did. I suspect Magic Menu 6.5 is just incompatible with the newer StuffIt stuff added with Panther...

I can't get "Spy 3.0" to load it's menuling under Panther at startup (login item)...and author has no time to update it either....oh well, anybody know of a working menu CPU load monitor under Panther that will load automatically? MenuMeters failed to do so as well.
Thanks.

MenuMeters failing to reload is a MenuCracker bug. I haven't checked Spy but I know MenuMeters will work if you install to /Library/PreferencePanes instead of ~/Library/PreferencePanes.
Or, if you're feeling really overeager you can build MenuCracker from source ( http://sourceforge.net/projects/menucracker/).
I've checked in the fix, but an official build hasn't been done yet.
I'll have a new MenuMeters up in a day or two with this and a couple of other Panther fixes.

Glad to hear it.
Just FYI, you can get MenuMeters to function when installed in ~/Library/PreferencePanes by deleting ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.SystemUIServer.plist.

True, but only for the first logout/login. After that it will be turned off again. Its a MenuCracker thing, and it is fixed, but getting everything together for a release is taking some time.
Installation to /Library/PreferencePanes will continue to work just as it did on Jaguar.

Not for me, unfortunately. Got any suggestions?
Of course, I can just wait for the update. Not a big deal.
edit: just logged in again, and both MenuMeters and Spy loaded automatically. But that was probably the third login since moving them to /Library/PrefPanes, so I don't know what's going on.
